ASPP West–Huntington Library Tour–May 3, 2014

One of the world’s best and most expansive photo archives is in our own back yard and we’ve arranged a special tour for ASPP West members.

Huntington Library Event Image

The Huntington houses over a million images, from the beginning of photography to the present day.  Join ASPP West Chapter, Los Angeles for a once in a lifetime opportunity for a privately guided tour by Jennifer Watts, Curator of Photographs for the Huntington Library. Most of the photographs has never been seen by the general public. This amazing collection includes the Southern California Edison Archive, the Archive of Maynard L. Parker who was the principal photographer for House Beautiful during its postwar heyday, a huge collection of panoramic negatives, the Historic Los Angeles Times records, The Observatories of the Carnegie Institution for Science Collection, and a large group of work by photographer Edward Weston and a extensive photo collection from the American Civil War. We will also have a chance to see the reading rooms, and ask questions about the collections.

The Huntington Gardens are like Versailles. These breathtaking gardens are close to the size of Disneyland, and infinitely more beautiful. We will tour the archive from 10:00am till noon, and we will have the rest of the afternoon to enjoy the gardens at our leisure.

Since we have a limited number of spaces, we are offering tickets to ASPP members only for first priority. If spaces are left, we will open attendance to ASPP friends and family.

General admission to the library is $25; with your ASPP membership, the cost to view the archives and tour the gardens and artworks for the day will only be $10.00 dollars. If openings remain after our RSVP’s, the cost to your family and friends of ASPP will be $20 dollars–limited to one guest per member. You need to purchase a ticket via the Eventbrite link below, and bring your printed receipt copy on the day of our tour.

We hope you can join us on this special day in Los Angeles to appreciate the photography and art with your fellow ASPP colleagues.  Parking is free at the Huntington Library.
