Lots to report this month:
We’re on the cusp of sending the Spring 2014 issue of The Picture Professional to the printer, and it’s looking great! In her article Patent Trolls, attorney Nancy Wolff gives us background on current patent litigations and the latest information about interesting new tools to help publishers and image licensors; from our New England chapter, Martha DiMeo talks about color perception and gives us a handy guide for calibrating our monitors for color workflows in Monitor Calibration; Samaruddin Stewart takes on the new trend of Drone Photography and discusses how the use of drones might radically change the photography industry; and, Corey Arnold, the renowned deep-sea fishing photographer (Deadliest Catch on the Discover channel) shares some of his newest photos which marry the art of lifestyle imagery with adventure photography.
Meanwhile, a reminder that this is the time of the year when many ASPP Memberships come up for renewal. If yours is one of them and you haven’t renewed yet, here are reasons to stay with ASPP in 2014:
• New Webinars, brought to you by ASPP and PhotoShelter
• Access to our Job Bank and Job Links pages
• Free listing in Find-a-Pro (it’s aspp.com’s second-most-visited page)
• Member discounts and savings (the Apple discount can save enough to cover your membership fees!)
• Our sparkling magazine, The Picture Professional
If you receive a renewal email, please take a moment to complete the quick and easy 4-step process! If you want to join or renew right now, here’s the link: Join or Renew.
The second most popular page on our website is our Find a Pro search page. If you want to be included in our listings you need to opt in; to do so, look for the popup at the very bottom of your Member Information page. You can also write an expanded description, add keywords and upload a photo or logo. Take a few minutes to read the guidelines and check your profile to make sure it reads the way you want. If you need help, give us call (516-500-3646).
Last but not least: Our Executive Director (Jain Lemos) resigned in January. On February 13, I stepped down as ASPP’s President and the Board of Directors appointed me as Interim ED and ASPP Vice-President Anna Fey moved up to become our new President. ASPP will be on the road this year: We will have a table at the Chicago Visual Connections this April–and in Berlin at the CEPIC Congress during June. Come see us at either event! A major part of my position is providing value for your membership dollars, so please do not hesitate to reach out and let me know if you need help or assistance of any kind. Send email to firstname.lastname@example.org or call me during business hours–(516) 500-3686.
