Visual Connections returns to Chicago on Thursday, April 24th, this time to a new venue: the beautiful Ivy Room at Tree Studios, just a block away from Grand-Red subway station.

This free education and networking event is for buyers and researchers of creative and editorial photography, footage and illustration. The one-day program offers a unique opportunity to gain knowledge about sourcing, licensing and using imagery; discover new sources of stock media; meet the people behind the images; learn about the latest trends and pick up tips; network with peers; and enjoy a free lunch.

There are two Q&A Sessions to choose from, both free to attend (pre-registration required). The 10am session, sponsored by ASPP, will discuss what’s new and changed in the industry today. The 2:30pm session will cover key issues in copyright and licensing, especially suited to anyone new to research or buying. Our two panels of experts include copyright attorneys, senior executives at leading image/footage agencies, a technology guru, and highly experienced buyers.

The exhibit floor opens at noon and will showcase a wide range of image/footage agencies, including some from overseas (British Library and PressFoto/Microstock.photos) and recent start-ups (Shestock and Nimia). This is where attendees can discover unusual and inspiring new sources of images and footage, covering art to medical science; discuss specific project requirements; and negotiate licensing deals.

Personal contact is much missed in today’s e-connected world, and one of the main reasons why trade shows still have a role. It’s not just good for the soul: it’s good for business.

Attendees can enjoy a complimentary lunch, snacks and beverages, and a Decadent Dessert Bar from 4pm, sponsored by Panoramic Images and Custom Medical. There is also a free prize drawing sponsored by exhibitors, lots of cool giveaways and the usual great buzz.

Entry is free, but restricted to professional image buyers and researchers. Full details and registration may be found at visualconnections.com/CH2014
